Who Am I?
It goes a little something like this. My name is Arlene. I am an 80’s baby born on May 13, 1988. Born and raised in Queens; blended with a beautiful mix of Guyanese, Trinidadian and Venezuelan. I am a Taurus, which means I’m a bit stubborn and hard headed, but I am headstrong as well. I will always go for what I want. Sometimes I like to have thing’s my way, as does everyone else but I can compromise too. I like to be independent; depending on people is definitely not my thing. A bad temper is what I have, although, it takes a lot for me to get angry. But it doesn’t mean for someone to test my patience either. I am a very outgoing person, love to laugh and have fun wherever I am. It’s rare to ever see me sad or upset, I’m just a big ball of energy. Also, I’m very bold; I usually speak my mind when I have to, wouldn’t sugar coat anything, or bite my tongue for anyone.
Family and friends are important in a person’s life, I feel. I couldn’t ask for better parents. Although parents will be parents no matter what, they try their best to make me happy and to provide me with anything I need. Making me very grateful to have them in my life. Also, I have two brothers, one older and one younger. Despite our disputes every so often, I wouldn’t trade them for the world. Friends have a great impact in someone’s life as well. I have a lot of friends, but I have a few friends that I keep close. Growing up I learned that friends come in and out of your life. Friends will smile at you and then talk about you once you leave the scene. They will also betray you. And the ones that don’t are the friends you choose to hold dear to you. With that being said, my best friends are the greatest, I’ve known them for many years and we’ve grown together with a close bond.
Music and dancing is my anti-drug. I’m very open to all genres; although what you’d find the most on my IPod is R&B and Hip-Hop. Without music I don’t know what I’d do, it’s soothing. Whatever mood I am in, I can listen to music. Whether me being sad, angry, happy etc. I will always be willing to listen to music. It helps me deal with my emotions. And also, when I listen to music I can’t help but to sing, and to sing aloud too. I surely am no singer but I’ll sing to the top of my lungs and not care what anyone thinks, as if no one were listening. On that note, I have a passion for dance. I’ve been dancing since the age of 3 years old and now 20 years old, and I am still dancing. There is no better feeling than to get on a stage and dance in front of an auditorium filled with people, feeling like a shining star. To dance and express yourself freely, it’s as if your a painter, the music is your paint, and the stage is your canvas.
As normal, I like fashion, maybe a little more than normal in the sneaker department. It all started back in junior high school when I got my first pair of Jordan’s. After that, my older brother has spoiled me rotten with sneakers. Staying updated was a must. I wouldn’t miss a new pair, and I’d always get them before their release dates. By my senior year of high school I had so many pairs of sneakers, and I was well known for my collection. Now in college and my collection is still growing.
My greatest accomplishment so far in my life was graduating from high school. It was like finishing a chapter in my life. Tuning the page, I am now a college student. I want to get my Associate’s Degree on to my Bachelor’s Degree and finishing with my Master’s. To see the proud look on my parents face on graduation day, in my eyes will be an overall accomplishment in life.
This is my story, and I hope you enjoyed it as much as I am living it.
